The Briscoe Center is a history research center with few peers. Our archival, artifact, and library collections contain historical treasures documenting key themes in Texas and U.S. history. R.L. Moore Legacy Collection
The Legacy of R.L. Moore Project helps advance studies of the mathematician Robert Lee Moore (1882-1974), thereby promoting the study of more effective methods of learning and teaching. The R. L. Moore Legacy Collection consists of oral histories, conference materials, student notes, reminiscences, photographic materials, theses, dissertations, administrative files, and articles.
Ralph W. Yarborough Papers
Ralph W. Yarborough served as a Texas senator from 1957 to 1971. During his time in the senate Yarborough voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and was one of three southern senators who supported the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He was also an advocate for public-health and environmental issues. Audio tapes, video tapes and films document his political career.
Robert J. Minchew Houston Astrodome Architectural and Engineering Collection
Media records from the Minchew collection document the publicity surrounding the Astrodome during its construction and completion.
Sam Rayburn Papers
Correspondence, speeches, interviews, newspaper clippings, printed materials, financial records, maps, charts, and reports document the political career of Sam Rayburn.
School Mathematics Study Group Records
A collection of 16 films made by the School Mathematics Study Group, with instructor Stewart Moredock (Sacramento State College) giving lessons on teaching elementary school mathematics. Forms part of the Archives of American Mathematics.
Sig Mickelson Papers
Audio and video tapes, and motion picture films document the career of Sig Mickelson as a broadcasting executive and educator.
Tary Owens Papers
The Tary Owens Papers consists of oral history interviews, live performances, studio recordings and work tapes, chronicling both renowned and obscure Central Texas blues musicians. This collection focuses primarily on the last generation of traditional country blues performers that grew up working in the country fields but as adults moved to cities looking for new opportunities. Many of these materials originated in conjunction with an event and documentary film, The Texas Blues Reunion celebrating the Victory Grill in Austin, Tx and its significant role in Austin's blues scene. Materials include but are not limited to the likes of Grey Ghost, WC Clark, Dr. Hepcat, Hosea Hargrove, Erbie Bowser, Bill Barnes, Snuff Johnson, James Polk, Guitar Curtis, and Frank Robinson.
